Miss Mary Greenwood

Mary Greenwood was born on July 2, 1877, in Chelsea, London, England, to journalist Madeleine Kate Greenwood and Charles William Greenwood, a barrister. She had five siblings: Alice M.; Mabel, who was also a member of the Society of Women Journalists; John Owen; Hubert; and Augustus G. 

Greenwood joined the Society of Women Journalists in June of 1912. She was proposed for membership by her mother, Madeleine Greenwood. Mary Greenwood contributed to The Advance, British Workman, Family Friend, Gentlewoman, Ladies' Field, Lady, Our Home, The Queen, and Shafts Magazine, among other periodicals. She resigned from the Society when she was appointed a School Manager for the London County Council Special Schools, a position she held for twelve years, in the early decades of the twentieth century. She rejoined the Society in 1932 and was elected to the Council the same year. 

Mary Greenwood died in the spring of 1932 after being hit by a motorcycle. She was 55 years old.
