Mrs. Mabel Burt

Mabel Burt, née Greenwood, was born on March 22, 1876, in Chelsea, London, England, to journalist Madeleine Kate Greenwood and Charles William Greenwood, a barrister. She had five siblings: Alice M.; Mary, who was also a member of the Society of Women Journalists; John Owen; Hubert; and Augustus G. On June 1, 1906, she married Reginald Stevens Burt, a civil servant in the India Office. They had one daughter, Madeleine L. Burt.

Burt joined the Society of Women Journalists in September, 1905, and was proposed for membership by her mother, Madeleine Greenwood. Under the name Mabel Greenwood, she published The Garden of Memories, and Other Poems (1905). She also contributed to Busy Man’s Magazine, Smart Set, and Womanhood. 

Burt died in 1938 at the age of 62.
