Miss Theodora C. M. Roscoe

Theodora Constance Mary Roscoe was born on July 15, 1888, in West Hyde, Hertfordshire, England, to Katherine Eliza and Edward Stanley Roscoe, an Assistant Admiralty Registrar for the High Court of Justice. She was the sixth of eight children, raised alongside her siblings Edward Gawne, Katherine, Margaret Murray, Evelyn P., Charles Stanley, Elizabeth Eden, and Fanny Octavia. On September 27, 1917, Theodora married her first cousin, Captain Edward Cecil Roscoe, a shipping solicitor. 

Roscoe was a member of the Society of Women Journalists from 1910 to 1912. During the First World War, she worked in munitions factories and military hospitals. At some point after the war she rejoined the Society and was an active member until her death in 1962. Roscoe contributed to the Westminster Review and Contemporary Review. She also published Romances of Old Buckinghamshire (1922) and several volumes of poetry, including Market Morning and Other Poems (1929), From the Country and Other Poems (1936), From the Chiltern: Poems Old and New (1946), and St. Albans and Other Poems (1953). She also compiled the collection Poems by Contemporary Women (1944) with Mary Winter Were. Roscoe’s writing often explored rural life and women's roles. Other works, such as her article “A Visit to Australia” in Contemporary Review and her poetry collection From the Country and Other Poems, drew inspiration from her travels to Australia, the United States, and Canada. 

Roscoe died on October 7, 1962, at the age of 74.
