Miss Evelyn Miller

Evelyn Miller was likely the pen name for Mary Eveline Miller. She was born in 1865 in Holloway, London, England, to Anna Maria and Launcelot S. Miller, an accountant and manager of a steamship company. She had an older brother, Horace L., and a younger sister, Annie L. 

Miller was a member of the Society of Women Journalists from 1909 until her death in 1929. She served as a councilmember from 1911 to 1914, Vice Chairman of the Council from 1914 to 1915, and Chairman of the council at some point after that. In 1918, she organized a short story competition which raised much-needed funds for the Society. Miller published a novel, The Drawn Line, in 1908. Her short fiction appeared in Daily Chronicle, Home Life Magazine, Lady’s Companion, Literary Post, M.A.P., Penny Magazine, Spare Moments, and Weekly Welcome. She was also a member of the Institute of Journalists and served on the Professional Classes Aid Council during and after the First World War. 

Miller died on February 8, 1929 at age 59 from bronchial pneumonia.
